eclectic elegance

Recently I have been trying to pay more attention to the vintage style I want to portray and purchase. I have been cleaning out my closet and really narrowing down my finds. I am trying to wear and find items that have an "eclectic elegance" to them. So far it has been going good, although sticking to your guns when thrifting is hard.

I have a habit of "trading" up vintage pieces, these two brass necklaces are perfect examples of this. I had been holding on to the right 1940s brass necklace because of it's age, even though when I went to wear it it never felt like me so I sold it. Months later for almost the exact same price I purchased the left 1940's brass necklace. Even though they are pretty much the same idea the new to me one has the quirky element of the strawberries while still retaining the elegance of a brass piece. I am really loving the patina my new necklace has the other one was just too shiny for me I guess...
I had been staying away from cookie tins because they are a weakness of mine. Last week I came across this tin and it fit my new motto pretty perfectly. It is black based and certainly elegant while showcasing a delightful design in a very vintage color palette.

I will admit I have slipped and a 1970's tooled leather purse may have also came home with me this month. Anybody else try to stay within a desired style when shopping for vintage?

  1. I definitely try to stay within my desired style when I'm shopping for myself! I know what I love and I know what I gravitate towards in my wardrobe day after day and I allow myself to fill my closet with those kinds of pieces.

  2. Gorgeous cookie tin! The artwork reminds me quite a bit of the classic movie The King and I with Yul Brynner. What a great find (same for the fabulous new brass leaf + strawberry necklace).

  4. The cookie tin is adorable! I know what you mean about trying to stick to a certain style…My problem is that I like so many styles, it's hard to pick one! I think you made a good choice on the necklace - although I like both necklaces, the one with the strawberries is my fave of the two, I think. :)
