last week in vintage

Last week I had no luck at the thrift, I definitely ogled the above two black purses but my practicality won over. The above 1940s silk purse was gorgeous I loved that the brass mirror was still in mint condition but I knew if I were to have a "night out" purse I wouldn't reach for this one I have others I like more. I did almost buy the larger patent 1950's purse though but then decided to see if my keys or phone would fit in the provided pockets and nope not one fit so I had to leave it behind.

There was a giant flea market this weekend (only 30% were vintage sellers) but the ones that do sell there I tend to like their stock. I have not been able to thrift a set of mixing bowls or even lonely mixing bowls to save my life the past two years so I had allotted myself a budget of $40 for a new to me vintage set. These federal glass ones came in under budget so I was pleased. I bought them from local etsy seller lisa of bitchin kitsch'n'kitchen They are not my personal holy grail so I will have no guilt actually using them for baking.

Anybody else have a good week in vintage?

  1. I was able to get out this past weekend for the first time in exactly a month (bad GI flare-up prior to then that was keeping me housebound, as flare-ups of many types frequently do) and went both thrifting and antiquing. Very little luck on either front, save for some items (from the antique stores) like vintage gloves that will land in my Etsy shop. They all seemed to be low on stock and very picked over. Hopefully as more folks start spring cleaning in a few weeks, these types of places will see a surge in stock again.

Those purses are fabulous! I can see why they were calling your name. I'm constantly impressed with how much genuine vintage the VV's and other thrift shops in Manitoba still get these days compared those those (on average) in BC and Alberta (that I've been to at least).

    1. Yes some vintage items like 1940's purses seem to grow on trees here, I don't post nearly as many as I find! Other items I have never come across at the thrift it is always a thrill to see what I can find. Winnipeg does seem to have easy access to vintage one great reason most prices are pretty low in the city compared to others:)

  3. I hate when you find a lovely purse and your stuff doesn't fit in the pockets! I have made that mistake too many times but that bag is gorgeous! Actually they are all pretty cute! I do love sweet bowl set you bought and they are perfect for everyday cooking!
